3 days is enough to visit popular historical and cultural attractions of the Golden Triangle, but not enough to experience its beauty hassle-free. You will cover about 700 km, spend roughly 13 hours in the car across the three days, and stay one night in Agra and one in Jaipur. Delhi gets a morning rather than a day, and Jaipur gets a single day for a city that comfortably fills two.

It works well if you have a fixed schedule or if you have been in India before and want the experience of Delhi, Agra & Jaipur. It works badly if this is your first trip in India you have travelled a long way for, or if you dislike long road days.

The driving is identical; the difference is entirely in how much of it you do before you have slept.

Never start on a Thursday

Day 2 is rserve for your Taj Mahal visit and the Taj Mahal is closed for visitors on every Friday for prayers at the mosque inside the complex. A Thursday departure puts your Taj morning on a Friday, so we do not run the tour on that start date. If Thursday is the only day that works for you, we reverse the route — Jaipur first, Agra second — and the Taj falls on day three instead. Ask us and we will confirm.

Monday starts cost you two Delhi monuments

The Red Fort and the Lotus Temple both close on Mondays. A Monday start still works, and the rest of the Delhi morning — Jama Masjid, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, the Chandni Chowk rickshaw ride, Raj Ghat and India Gate — runs as normal. We usually substitute Humayun's Tomb, which is open daily and is the building the Taj Mahal was modelled on.

Do you stop at shops on this tour?

It totally depends on you, If you want to go then say yes to your tour guide otherwise say no to tour guide in the monring so that he can adjust your tour itinerary. Agra's marble inlay workshops and Jaipur's block-printing and carpet studios are on the itinerary as optional stops, not fixed ones.

We include them because the craft is genuinely worth seeing — the marble inlay in Agra is the same pietra dura technique used on the Taj Mahal, done by families who have worked it for generations. We do not include them because we need you to buy anything, and your guide is not paid more if you do.

How much driving is involved

Golden triangle circuit covers 700 km over three days, or 13 hours in the car in total. The Delhi to Agra (204 km, 3.5 hours on the Yamuna Expressway), Agra to Jaipur (237 km, 5 hours), and Jaipur back to Delhi (258 km, 5 hours). Day 2 and day 3 are the long ones, and both drives happen after a morning of sightseeing rather than instead of it.

You travel in a private air-conditioned car with the same driver for all three days. Bottled water is in the car; stops are whenever you ask.

4-Star Hotels

Larger rooms, a pool, a proper restaurant and buffet breakfast, and — in Jaipur — the option of a heritage haveli instead of a modern hotel, which is where this tier starts to feel like a much bigger upgrade than the price difference suggests.

Agra: Crystal Sarovar Premiere, Howard Plaza The Fern or similar.

Jaipur: Hotel Clarks Amer, Shahpura House or Alsisar Haveli — the last two are family-owned heritage properties with painted courtyards and rooftop dining.

Best for first-time visitors to India who want somewhere restful to come back to after a long driving day.

3-Star Hotels

Clean, comfortable and well located, with air conditioning, hot water and a restaurant on site. These are working city hotels rather than destination properties — you are sleeping there and leaving early, and the money goes into the itinerary instead.

Agra: Hotel Taj Resorts, Hotel Atulyaa Taj or similar, both a short drive from the Taj Mahal's East Gate.

Jaipur: Hotel Arya Niwas, Nahargarh Haveli or similar, inside or beside the old city.

Best for travellers who want the tour, not the hotel, and for anyone doing the 3-day version precisely because time is short.

Best time for Golden Triangle Tour

The best time for the Golden Triangle tour is October to March, when Delhi, Agra and Jaipur are all cool and dry. If you can pick a single month, choose February: the winter fog has cleared, days sit around 25°C, and the light on the Taj Mahal is at its best. April to June is very hot, and July to September is the monsoon.
